Start in the middle. See where it leads.

1

Choose a central idea

Put the topic, challenge or decision in the centre. Keep it short enough that people can hold the question in mind.

2

Build the first branches

Add the main themes around it. Extend a branch when someone has a useful detail, question or example.

3

Follow the strongest connections

Look for repeated themes and surprising relationships. Mark the branches you want to explore in a separate session.

Explore a new service offer

Put the customer outcome in the centre. Create branches for people, process, tools, evidence, risks and delivery. Add the questions your team needs to answer before offering it.

Use the map to define the next round of research and planning.

How is a mind map different from a concept map?

A mind map grows out from one central idea. A concept map focuses on named relationships between several concepts, so it is useful when the links themselves need explaining.

Can I move the branches?

Yes. The native template creates editable board objects, so you can rearrange the structure as the idea develops.
